Introduction to ELSI for Businesspeople – Data Utilization
There have been rapid advancements in science and technology in recent years, including in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and quantum technology.
As new technologies are being continuously developed, their introduction into society may lead to ELSI (Ethical, Legal and Social Issues).
The Osaka University Research Center on Ethical, Legal, and Social Issues (ELSI Center) aims to serve as a go-between, helping to facilitate discussion and share insights between those who develop technologies and those who accept them.
In this four-part course, members of the Osaka University ELSI Center will provide an easy-to-understand overview of ELSI, with a focus on the utilization of personal data.
In Week 1, we will first review the background and significance of considering ELSI now.
In Weeks 2 and 3, we will use specific examples as a basis for introducing the basic perspectives needed to understand ELSI.
In Week 4, we will offer ideas for how to incorporate ELSI perspectives into corporate activities, through examples of good practices of consideration of ELSI.
No ELSI consideration? No innovation.
We look forward to considering this together.
